Your home has neutral décor. It’s spotless and shows like a model on the inside but you’re not getting many visitors or potential buyers to your home. Perhaps you’re home is lacking in curb appeal.
The outside of your home is the first thing homebuyers see when they visit. If your home looks tired, dirty or lackluster many homebuyers will never make it into the front door.
To make the best impression try these simple tips.
- Clean up-Stow away unnecessary items; pressure wash siding and porches, clean windows, gutters and downspouts.
- Lawn care-Mow the lawn, edge sidewalks and pathways, remove weeds and other vegetation growing in cracks.
- Tree care-Trim trees and hedges. Don’t forget rake and remove leaves as well as fallen branches.
- Seasonal plantings-Make sure your flower beds are clean and add some seasonal flowers for a little color. Try some container plantings and window boxes too.
- Freshen Up-By polishing hardware, painting or staining your door, shutters or porch you can improve your home’s appearance.
- Lighting up-Make sure your entry way is well lit and your numbers can be seen from the road. Add some simple lighting to illuminate pathways.
- Fix it-Make repairs to your home such as broken lights, cracked or loose stairs, torn screens etc.
- Decorate-Paint or replace your mailbox. Add a wreath to the front door or other seasonal decorations such as pumpkins on your porch.
Look at other homes that have sold quickly in your neighborhood. What made them stand out? Did they have manicured lawns, new railings or shutters? Perhaps they had beautiful flowers and a stone pathway. These items can really set your home apart from the competition and it may be worth investing a little time to make a good first impression.
