In many areas of the country, there is a surplus of homes for sale. That’s why buyers can and will be choosy when it comes to buying a home. While there are many reasons why a potential buyer may decide to not buy a home, here is a list of the most popular:
- It’s out of date-If your home looks like a time capsule you’re going to have a hard time selling it in today’s market. Buyers are picky. They want move in ready and are looking for modern features like granite countertops and new appliances.
- Deferred maintenance-Have a home inspection before you list and make any necessary repairs. Homebuyers do not want to spend money on roofs, heating systems or other costly repairs.
- Fit and finish-Peeling paint, crayon on the walls, cracks in sidewalks and stained carpets can make a house look run down. Sprucing up your home before you list it can make a huge difference.
- Out of control landscaping-Homebuyers are looking for low maintenance and will be turned off by weeds, long grass and overgrown foliage. Also no one wants to see your laundry either so take down the clothes line.
- Mess and clutter-Homebuyers can’t imagine them inside your home if they see all your stuff everywhere collecting dust. Clean it up, put it away or store it offsite.
