While the holidays may look different this year, it doesn’t mean that we must skip out on our yearly traditions. There are plenty of ways to have a COVID safe holiday season. Whether you want to look at some Christmas lights, stay in, or have a night out with a wine experience, there are some socially distant options all throughout South Jersey and Philadelphia.
South Jersey
In South Jersey there are many outdoor options to view lights. Starting off with the South Jersey Holiday Show. It’s located at Bridgeport Speedway in Logan Township. The show features a 20–25-minute ride along a-mile-long route with light displays up to three stories high and 50-feet long. You can also tune in your car to holiday music that syncs with the lights. Since the show takes place from the safety of your own car, it makes this activity a great way to celebrate while also following COVID-19 guidelines.
Or if you’d simply like to take a drive around the neighborhood, luckily some of your neighbors have their own light displays. Courier Post has compiled a list of homes with the best lights for you to see here!
Another holiday option is the Christmas Underwater show at the Adventure Aquarium. Along with over 15,000 aquatic animals to see, here you can take pictures with scuba diving Santa from his Magic Snow Globe. You can also walk around the aquarium as it’s decorated for the holiday. Other features are the World’s Tallest and Smallest Underwater Christmas trees.
If you’re looking for a nice night out, the Garden State Wine Growers Association is offering there “Holiday Wine Experience”. Reservations are available to create a COVID safe wine experience for adults. Some wineries are even offering fire pits with outdoor heaters and live music! If you just want to pick up some wine as a gift or for a cozy night in, they have curbside deliveries available.
Philadelphia
In Philadelphia, they are getting creative with their COVID safe holiday options.
The Morris Arboretum has a holiday Garden Railway. They’ve got outdoor trains that run along tracks decorated with small scenes. You can even take a trip to Betsy Ross’ house, where they have a decorated the courtyard.
Philadelphia is even offering a drive-in holiday movie, free with the donation of a canned good! At the Navy Yard, they are playing the Polar Express every Thursday at 6pm. A great, affordable option for those wanting to save this season.
This year, Shady Brook Farms in Yardley is offering a drive-through holiday light show. They also have the option to view their 3 million light displays on an open-air wagon ride. After the light show, you can reserve campfires where you can enjoy hot chocolate, smores, and other holiday treats.
At the Elmwood Park Zoo, there are offering Wild Lights, a great option if you have kids. You can purchase timed tickets for an event where you can see animals, a Christmas tree display, and even take some socially distant photos with Santa!
Longwood Gardens in Chaddsford, PA features 500,000 botanical holiday lights, including a Tunnel of Light. They offer timed tickets, making the experience socially distant and COVID safe.
At Home
Even if you’re looking for some Christmas festivities to enjoy from your own home, we’ve got you covered with three different live stream options. You can see a Christmas Carol concert put on by the Malvern theater, a live holiday play called The Little Princess, or a Hip-Hop Nutcracker show. Tickets range from $19-$29. This makes for a fun holiday experience from the comfort of your own living room!
This year has looked different in a lot of ways, but the holidays are here to stay. There are so many options to stay safe, while celebrating. If we do our part to social distance, wear our masks, and follow guidelines, we can still enjoy our yearly traditions.
